Syra couldn't sleep at all through the night as thoughts of excitement flooded her mind, thoughts of what is to come making her more excited and unable to rest. She tossed and turned in her bed trying desperately to wind herself down as well as hugging her pillows trying to get comfortable, but to no avail. She sat up, frustrated and let out a growl, "Dammit all!" She decided to get out of bed, moving over to her dresser and pulling out the dress her parents got her and putting it on, as well as fastening the scabbard and spell blade gifted by her brother. "No rest for me I guess." she let out a puff of cyan fire before walking out to her balcony. The sky was pitch black with dark purple clouds that dimly lit up the sky. Try as she might to look up she could not see a star of the night sky through the miasma of dark magic. She assumed it was getting close to dawn based off of the illumination of the sky, the sun buried behind the clouds should be just on the horizon in another hour or so. Instead of simply looking out at her parents domain she decided to practice some magic and drew out her spell blade which began to burn with her matching flames as she held it. Syra swung the blade which left behind streaks of flames from her swing, she swung a few more times trying to get back into practice with using such a weapon. After those swings she concentrated, the flames on her sword burned more intensely this time and with a horizontal swing a wave of fire shot out in a horizontal crescent shape. Syra couldn't help but grin at that and began to do more concentrated swings, swinging vertically and diagonally creating the same crescent of fire at different angles, and she thrust forward shooting out a regular bolt of fire out into the sky. She grinned at the weapon, excited to experiment with it some more, concentrating she infused her weapon with ice magic and her free hand with fire. She swung shooting out spikes of ice from her swing then hurling a firebolt out with her free hand, She could double up on her spellcasting with her weapon, she let out an "Eeeee!" from this. "Having fun Syra?" a voice came from behind her startling her causing her to drop her weapon with a clatter the flames on the runes fading. "Oh! Dad! Didn't know you we're awake already!" she said looking at Kargha, his lime green eyes glowing in her dark chamber. He let out a soft chuckle as he walked inside out to the balcony, he picked up her spell blade, "You really need to work on not dropping this when startled." as he held it the blade on it's own floated from her hands and back to Syra's and the flames returned, "Ah, I see the blade has become bound to you, that'll be useful." Kargha chuckled before holding out his arms, wanting a hug from his daughter. Syra obliged embracing her father before looking back up at him, "I hope I didn't wake you, I couldn't get any real rest at all." "No, me and your mother we're already awake," he ruffled Syra's hair, "We both we're too excited for you to sleep ourselves, and we're going to be the ones to take you to your promised land since you've yet to attain your true form yet." Syra looked down embarrassed by that comment, but Kargha gave an encouraging laugh, "Don't worry my daughter, it'll come to you one way or another, we know your a late bloomer, but we believe you'll be the best of us, one of the most feared tyrants in all of Isvarla." She looked up at her father seeing his encouraging grin and couldn't help grin back, appreciating his attempt to uplift her. Ashna entered the chamber leaning against the door way smiling at the two, "Syra it's been a long time since we've seen you smile like this, it warms my heart to see you out of that slump for all these years." Syra looked at her mother then down at the floor slightly embarrassed. She then noticed her mother closing and locking the door to her chambers from the inside before walking over and pulling Kargha and Syra into a strong hug. Syra closed her eyes as they hugged before Ashna spoke up, "So, ready for us to take you to your land?" "Y-yes, but what about Garlath? Wouldn't he like to say his farewell to me?" "Your brother left yesterday, along with Malroth and your cousins, they have their own lands to take care of." Kargha answered. "Oh... right..." Syra looked down, saddened to have missed her brother. "Oh come now, you'll see your family again in no time once you've conquered your land!" Ashna said trying to lift her spirits. Syra shifted slightly uncomfortably at that comment but let out a smile, while her bond was strongest with her brother the thought of the rest of her family bringing their terror to her land disturbed her, "Actually I'll come to you all, with my true form." Both her parents blinked at that comment, slightly taken aback at that comment before shrugging and giving her one more hug before finally breaking it. "Mom, Dad, one more thing... please even if they mess up in their tasks, don't burn or devour Mithra or Lau'na, I want them to come to my land." Both her parents ruffled her hair gently, "Of course, they are yours and it wouldn't be right to destroy your things so needlessly." said Kargha, Ashna nodding in agreement, Syra felt deeply uncomfortable by that wording describing those she considers friends. After that the three walked outside onto Syra's balcony, both her parents climbed onto the railing standing on it, "Just give us one moment and we'll be-" Ashna said before both her and Kargha fell off. Syra run up to the railing looking down the fortress before seeing both of her parents in their true forms flying back up and in front of her balcony, "Out of here!" Kargha shouted with a grin. He was the closest to her and extended his wing out forming a makeshift bridge for her to walk on. Being mindful Syra climbed up and walked along her father's wing before getting on his back and sitting herself down in the right spot so she couldn't slide and fall off, not that any of them would let her fall and she had wings herself she could conjure but she preferred avoiding that risk. "Comfortable?" her father asked. "Yes dad." she said, and then they all took off. Syra held on tightly as they flew together, quickly picking up great speed as they flew off to her land. She looked back at her parent's fortress, her home, that she won't see for a long time. They passed over the pools of lava, the decaying ruins of the elf capital, and the volcano that spawned in the center of it all. As they flew they passed by the lands inhabited by the high and shadow elves, where life still flourished, where those under her family's rule could live without starving or wasting away, a strange mercy all things considered. Looking down it reminded Syra of her being brought here all those years ago, all the elves we're kind to her, but she knew it was out of fear of her parents. Even where life could go on the darkened sky and corrupted light still shined across these lands. After a few minutes of fast flight Syra felt tiredness finally start to claim her and she fell asleep. As she slept she had dreams where she found herself being paraded through the streets of a large city unlike any she had seen before, she was in her true form laying on a large stone slab adorned in various decorations of gold and jewels and covered in a soft decorative rug of sorts. The slab she sat on was being pushed in carried by various servants, all wearing her banner colors of black and cyan. The crowds around her had their heads bowed, with a few letting out cheerful yells for their queen. She was led inside a large ornate castle entering a large throne room where she was carried far to the back of the chamber, positioned to face all her underlings. Before her we're countless people, humans, dwarves, elves, and some creatures she had never seen, all of whom we're carrying tribute to present to their queen. As the first group approached her carrying artifacts of great value a bright blinding light suddenly shined through the throne room, engulfing everything within, all the decorations and details of the chamber, all servants and devotees to here engulfed by this blinding yellow light, Syra covered her eyes as she could no longer make out anything and then she woke up. Trying to get her vision together she covered her eyes from the same blinding yellow light, as she regained focus she let out a gasp as she realized the sky was no longer dark, no longer was it a pitch black with clouds of dark magic, she was looking at the sun and an uncorrupted blue sky for the first time, the annoyance of the blinding light faded and she was left with nothing but awe at the sight of what was beyond her home land. Curiosity got the better of her and she turned her head back seeing the land behind her, pitch black clouds hovered over the land owned by her family, but beyond that was an endless expanse of blue with patches of white clouds, and a golden sun illuminating it all. Kargha simply let out a deep chuckle, "I almost forgot you've never seen the world outside our domain." "It's... It's something else father..." she was enveloped in the awe of it all, after looking at the sky she looked down seeing the sea which was as blue as the sky, the waves seemed to grow and shrink as they flew over it all, she felt herself leaning towards it. "Wouldn't recommend you do that, daughter." Ashna called out and Syra turned to her mother, "Trying to go for a swim from this height would be dangerous, simply slamming into the water will leave you regretting it all, trust me when I was your age I tried it." she said with a chuckle. Syra nodded before sitting up, the ride becoming a lot more enjoyable as she took in the beauty she had never seen for years, she looked towards the horizon trying to spot any land ahead of them. The three flew for what felt like another hour, their great speed outpacing the sun as it started to look like dawn behind them. After much flying as Syra continued to search the horizon they finally spotted it, she had reached her promised land. Syra couldn't contain herself she got to her feet standing on the back of her father, his dragon form giving her plenty of space for her to stand without much risk of falling. Both her parents stopped their flight and kept to the air, each flap of their wings keeping them level in the sky. "Well here we are, would you like us to fly you in?" Ashna asked looking at Syra. "Actually if it would be alright with you both I'd like to head over their myself, get a feel for the land that will become mine." "Of course Syra, whatever you wish." Kargha responded. Syra smiled and gave her father a hug around his neck, then standing back up facing her mother who gently nuzzled her on the cheek with her large dragon muzzle, Syra gave her a hug around her neck as well before conjuring her large wings on her back ready to take flight. "Well, I suppose this is it. Thank you mom, dad." "Of course and remember, we'll always love you." Kargha spoke. Syra smiled before jumping off Kargha's back, her wings expanding and they caught an updraft and she took flight to the shores of Kasgara. She looked back at her parents one last time waving to them before reaching the shore and landing on the sand. After that she looked back and watched as her parents turned around and flew away, she watched till they turned into small specs on the horizon and then we're gone. Despite this Syra struggled to wrap her head around it, she was on her own, away from the rest of her family, and she began to laugh in excitement and glee at her situation. "At last, I'm away, I'm on my own..." She looked around at the land around her, she was on the beach between a vast ocean before her, behind her was a large forest filled with dense foliage, she knew she would have to go through that to get a lay of the land but she took her time to enjoy the environment, take it slow for the moment. She looked down at the ground she stood on, mesmerized she reached down and felt the sand on her hands picking up a small handful of it, noting the texture and letting it slip from her grasp bit by bit. After that she then decided to take off her clawed slippers and felt the sand on her feet, it felt warm and relaxing in it's own way and she approached the shore watching the waves roll in, eventually reaching her feet and she felt the cool sea water on her skin and the sand she stood on getting damp from the water. She looked out to the horizon and was in awe at the beauty around her, she closed her eyes and felt the sea breeze on her body, feeling a chill along her exposed midsection. The moment of enjoyment was cut short as she felt herself sink a little from the sea drenched sand, looking down she pulled her feet out from below noting them being covered in damp sludgy sand. She walked away from the oncoming waves which then led to the dry sand sticking to her wet feet and she let out a sigh. She walked over to where she had set down her clawed slippers and picked them up, she couldn't put them on right now not without making a mess of them. She looked a little further along the beach and she noticed a pair of large boulders sticking out of the sand and she made her way over to them, sitting down on one and scraping the sand off her feet as best she could and waited till she dried up a little before putting the slippers back on, some bits of sand could be felt inside. "Alright Syra, no more messing around, it's time to explore this land and figure it all out." she said to herself before getting up off the boulder and walked towards the foliage of various trees before being further fascinated by the forest environment. The trees we're larger than the ones in the elflands, untouched by her kind these we're allowed to grow into massive trees with dense foliage and vines hanging all around them. Syra walked further into the forest only to be further caught up by the beauty surrounding her, the plants around her we're large and beautiful of various colors, she wondered if her homeland was anything like this before her family torched it all. As she walked these thoughts we're interrupted when she felt a sensation of powerful magic run through her horns, she recognized the type. "Gravity magic? Here?" She continued to walk feeling the sensation getting stronger, indicating that she must be getting closer, she then started to hear sounds of something or someone struggling. This urged her to run towards where she was sensing the magic, hearing a loud splash as she moved through the trees seeing a large dip in the land and to her surprise she saw a large whirl of dark purple magic centered around a large puddle of water, probably a foot or more deep. She approached the gravity well warily unsure of what to make of it, as she got closer she noticed a humanoid figure in the center of the well. She head a gasp for air as it tried to pull itself up, the gravity well was pulling the person under the puddle nearly drowning them. "By the seven is anyone out here!?" came a desperate cry from the figure. "I'm here!" Syra shouted running towards the well getting as close as she dared stopping just as she felt her clothes and hair start to get pulled by the well. "Oh thank the gods! Please get me out of this thing before it kills me!" "Give me a moment and I'll get you out, just gotta make sure I don't get pulled in with you!" Syra responded before bringing her right hand to her chest, conjuring forth her own gravity magic, this one meant to weaken the well and she held out her hand, a torrent of dark purple coalesced and flowed towards Syra as she drained the well of it's power and the dark swirl became more translucent and she could make out the person was in robes and a hand flung out reaching for someone to grab. "Whatever you did it's working wonders, if you can get a hold of my hand and pull I should be free!" the man called out. Syra without hesitation grabbed his hand and pulled as hard as she could and she sent the man flying over her and in an instant knocked her back against the grass with his weight and she had several pounds of a drenched mortal on top of her. "Oh... I thought I was a goner." said the man with a voice of relief, as he sat up Syra got a good look at him, he was a human with a short beard and amber eyes, wearing a pair of red robes, "Sorry about all that, give me a moment to reorient myself and I-I-I!" the human stammered as he got a good look at his savior, focusing on the dragon eyes, then the horns, and then noticing her tail, the human jumped back looking horrified before clapping his hands together and readying a bolt of fire. "Wait a minute! Wait a minute!" Syra called out, realizing that the human was freaking out from what she is, "I know this might be frightening for you, I understand!" she then looked down at her scabbard and decided to draw the blade and threw it on the ground, "With the exception of things I can't remove I've disarmed myself the best I can!" The human glared at Syra having an untrusting expression but he took a deep breath, "Since you went out of your way to save me, and I have yet to be either burned or enslaved by you, Tyrant... I'm willing to give you a chance to explain yourself... now do so." Syra held up her hands as she thought about how she could explain herself, claiming that she is here to claim this land as her own would be a mistake, but a half truth came to mind, "I know you'll find this hard to believe and I understand if you don't... I come from the elf lands far from here, owned by my parents, I ran away from them because... well... I'm not like the rest of my family, I can't stand their cruelty towards those beneath them, I couldn't take it anymore so I decided to begin again in a land far away from all of them." The human had a puzzled look but still maintained his firebolt ready to cast it, "I hope you understand that what you described sounds very questionable at best and farcical at worst, but once again given that you've gone out of your way not to harm me... I'm willing to give it a chance." and he extinguished his spell. Syra let out a soft sigh of relief. "Now, since I'm giving you a chance, let's start over with some proper introductions, yes?" the human then cleared his throat and held up his hand in greeting and with a smile, "Hello! I am Kal, a novice defender of one of the many villages of the kingdom of Asgarna, and currently lost far from here from some spellwork gone wrong, ad you are?" "Syra, princess, well former princess of the family of tyrants." "That's a lovely name I cannot lie." Kal said with a smile. "So, you said some spellwork had gone wrong? How did that happen?" "Well, yesterday was my eighteenth name day and my family and friends gifted me with a book from the sorcerer who resides in the capital of Asgarna and-" Kal suddenly froze and he turned around. Syra turned with him and the two saw a large finely crafted book buried beneath the puddle of water, freaking out Kal ran back as the gravity well faded to nothing and reached for the book pulling it out the water, "Oh no, no, no!" The book let out magical sparks as the pages and texts we're ruined by the water and gravity magic. Kal slowly walked back and slumped to the ground holding the tome with a depressed look on his face, "My parents are going to end me for this..." Syra sat down next to him, feeling pity for the spellcaster, "I'm sorry Kal, if I'd of gotten here sooner we probably could've saved it..." "Ah probably not, once the gravity well was summoned it was yanked out of my hands." he looked down at the ruined book letting out a sigh, "Way to go Kal..." Syra looked at the book curiously, her horns detecting the traces of magic from it, "Is there anything that could be done?" "Not really, I believe the only way this could be remedied would be if we took it back to the capital and have the grand sorcerer repair it himself, or make a new one... but I don't even know where I'm at, and I'm supposed to be a protector of my village!" An idea popped up in Syra's mind in that moment, "Maybe I could help!" she suggested." Kal looked at her with a mix of wariness and curiosity, "What do you have in mind?" "You have a sense of the land around you right? Maybe I could help you get your bearings straight on where we're at and that can lead you back home!" "That would be helpful, but how can we-" Syra grinned conjuring her dragon wings, spreading them wide ready for flight. Kal blinked at that before smiling, "Wish I'd of thought of that myself! Let's do it!" Syra reached out scooping her arms under Kal lifting him up and holding him close to her before flapping her wings and flying in the sky going above the trees, Syra let out some harsh breaths not used to carrying this extra weight. Kal looked out at the land around them getting his bearings straight, "I believe we are on the eastern peninsula of Kasgara, so we're in northern part of the kingdom, if we head south west we'll find one of our neighboring villages within a day, and then from their back to home!" Syra panted some more as she gradually floated down making sure to land without as gently as possible, letting Kal get to his feet before Syra slumped to the ground lying on her back, her chest raising and lowering as she caught her breath, "Not used... to carrying... that much weight..." "I guess dragons have certain strengths and weaknesses much like we do." Kal added. "Doesn't help... that I can't take on... my true form." Kal blinked at that, finding a dragon without their dragon form to be strange. As Syra rested for the moment he reached over to pick up her spell blade and carried it to her, "Well once your ready I suppose we should start heading back home." Kal smiled as the spell blade floated towards Syra. "Are you okay with that Kal?" "Well I'll probably have to explain some things to my parents, friends, the guards, and definitely the mayor. But you said you wanted to start a new right?" Syra blinked at him before nodding. "Then what better way to begin again than with a new home? Consider it me owing you for saving my life." he held his hand out towards Syra. She looked at him and then smiled taking his hand as she is helped to her feet and Kal walked ahead with a renewed confidence and Syra following behind. As they walked some thoughts started to creep into her mind, this person could make a great apprentice for her when she learns the way of the land and finds a way to claim it as her own. Syra shook her head trying to keep such thoughts down, but then another more positive one came to mind, "Kal?" "Yes Syra?" "I know I only know so much of my own magic, but I had a thought if it's going to take a while for you to get that book fixed would you like me to help teach you what I know?" Kal's eyes practically lit up from that and he froze turning around to face her, "If you know anything I don't I'd be happy to learn from you." Syra put her hands behind her back smiling warmly at Kal, before the two resumed their travel, Syra taking in the beauty of the land and sating her curiosity of the mortal she was with, and Kal while wary of her still was happy to have some company.
